There are two different types of DCF Appeals.
The first is the Administrative Hearing Appeal process.
If that fails, the next option is an Appeal to the Connecticut Superior Court.

DCF Administrative Appeals – First Appeal
When DCF Substantiates Abuse or Neglect or recommends placement on the Central Registry the alleged perpetrator has the right to appeal the findings at an Administrative Hearing. This is the initial appeal after you receive the Notice of Investigation Results.
Please contact me to discuss this process. This is always – always – the best chance for a reversal. Be prepared and get it right the first time.
DCF Appeals to the Superior Court – Next Appeal
But, if a parent is unsuccessful, then the the next step is to file an appeal with the Connecticut Superior Court. However, these appeals are very time sensitive. In addition, at the Superior Court level, the proceedings are more formal. and require more filings.
Therefore, navigating these appeals are much more tricky than at the Administrative Hearing. As a result, it is highly recommended to retain experienced legal counsel. Or at least have a consultation if you are going to represent yourself.
The point of this blog is not to discourage parents about DCF appeals to the Superior Court. I know certain types of cases will be overturned. My point is to emphasize the need to meet the deadlines and filing requirements. Otherwise, you risk the appeal being dismissed. You certainly don’t want that.
